La Vesuvius Challenge e il futuro della biblioteca ercolanese

Per la prima volta la Vesuvius Challenge, attraverso lo srotolamento virtuale, ha offerto la possibilità di leggere il testo di un papiro di Ercolano non aperto. Per i prossimi anni abbiamo la speranza di poter leggere molti rotoli carbonizzati ancora chiusi che si trovano presso la Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli e quelli che potrebbero essere ancora sepolti nella Villa di Ercolano. Questo articolo discute le prospettive di questa ricerca sulla base dei dati che già conosciamo dai papiri e a partire dalla struttura della Villa e dal suo scavo settecentesco.
For the first time, the Vesuvius Challenge, through virtual unwrapping, has offered the possibility of reading an unopened papyrus from Herculaneum. In the coming years, we hope to be able read many carbonized scrolls still closed that are preserved at the National Library of Naples and those that may still be buried in the Villa of Herculaneum. This article discusses the prospects of this research on the basis of the data we already know from the papyri and starting from the structure of the Villa and its eighteenth-century excavation.
